Services
Geographic Information Science. For those who need ongoing GIS services, the Center provides both the labor and the use of specialized computer software. The Center has access to a wide variety of ESRI products and other ad hoc software solutions. For those who require GPS resources, the Center has accurate and highly portable Trimble GPS units.
Project Management. Some groups and organizations only require the use of GIS services for the duration of a particular project. For such cases the Center can be contracted to perform services within a limited scope and duration. For government agencies and nonprofits in the grant-writing phase, the Center is happy to assist in the budget-writing and wording relating to its proposed involvement.
Original Research. Often the Center is approached with a problem that has not yet been sufficiently solved. The researchers at the Center enjoy developing creative solutions to spatial problems. A novel methodology, a custom script, or even a custom program can be written for specific and new applications.
The Center is committed to the GISc education of both University students and the public. To that end each contract involves at least one graduate student and one faculty member. The faculty member serves as a project consultant, while the student performs the bulk of the tasks. With this arrangement, the client reaps the benefit of top-level expertise.
